VERDICT: A progressive sort at the end of last season, Il Va De Soi's recent effort when second at Sandown was highly encouraging. The return of 3lb claimer Alice Steven to the saddle is a big plus, having won him twice before, and the seven-year-old may have enough to see off Haydock winner Bertie's Ballet and American Sniper, who was a respectable third over further here in December. Others to note include Hardy Du Seuil, Herbiers and Range.
