VERDICT: American Sniper impressed when scoring gamely in reapplied cheekpieces (retained) over 3m at Newbury on his penultimate start last month, and he shaped like he was still in good heart when plugging on for sixth after setting brisk fractions in a hot Cheltenham handicap over 2m5f last time out. Eased 2lb for that, David Pipe's charge gets the nod to land the spoils. Grozni is a smart operator on his day and, sporting a visor for the first time and having slipped to an attractive mark, his turn in the winner's enclosure may not be far away. Willaston is also noteworthy.
