VERDICT: Carlton had looked in trouble before powering to the front approaching the furlong pole over C&D a week ago, ultimately recording a half-length success. James Owen's new recruit must shoulder a 5lb penalty today, but talented apprentice Sean D Bowen takes off a handy 3lb and he is taken to go in again. Smokey Malone has proven to be a relatively consistent performer at this level and he is unlikely to be far away, although Anisoptera will appreciate a return to further and might be the bigger threat.
