VERDICT: Soldiers Star went agonisingly close over 6f on his racecourse debut at Newcastle. After a slow start, the son of Soldier's Call finished with a determined effort to go down by just a short head and, with an additional furlong sure to suit on pedigree, this appears a good opportunity for him to go one place better. Best Of All and Well Enough are the pick of the others with experience, with Deira Storm an appealing newcomer.
