VERDICT: Il Ridoto readily accounted for Ga Law (second) in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month and though both merit respect, the vote goes to Fugitif. In danger of being left behind in that race, his seasonal return and first outing following wind surgery, Richard Hobson's charge managed to stay on for fifth. He's now 2lb lower, meaning he is 1lb below the mark off which he claimed this prize 12 months ago, and it would come as no surprise were he to go very close. Madara (fourth) is another to take seriously, along with top-weight Stage Star.
