VERDICT: Better won over C&D on his penultimate start before going close at Southwell when beaten a nose into third by the reopposing Fortunate Star, who dead-heated for the win. The latter has held his form well on both subsequent outings at the same venue, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he struggled to confirm the placings with Paul Midgley's gelding. Tickets rates best of the rest.
