VERDICT: Not for the first time, Unexpected Party's stamina appeared stretched by the 2m4f distance when finishing last in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree last month. Last season's Grand Annual hero should appreciate this stiff 2m and any improvement for his seasonal debut should make him tough to beat. Path D'oroux justified cramped odds in a novice chase at Cheltenham 17 days ago and another bold bid is forecast from Gavin Cromwell's charge, while four-year-old Kalif Du Berlais is an intriguing chase debutant with his handy weight-for-age allowance.
