VERDICT: A marked drop in distance proved no barrier to success for seasonal debut winner Major Fortune at Newton Abbot last week. The six-year-old scored with plenty up his sleeve and a 7lb penalty over this longer trip may not be enough to prevent him from completing a double. Monmiral, who took the Final of this series at the Cheltenham Festival in March, ended his campaign with a respectable fifth at Aintree and isn't taken lightly dropping in class. Emitom, runner-up 12 months ago, is another to consider.
