VERDICT: Deep Purple was value for more than the winning margin suggests when scoring in a bumper at Southwell on his most recent start, and he looks just the type to improve for having his first go over the smaller obstacles. A winner of a point-to-point in March, Dan Skelton's charge is likely to relish the step up in trip and he is narrowly preferred to Wendigo, who arrives with similar claims. A creditable fourth on his hurdles bow at Uttoxeter in May, Lightningupourdays must enter calculations as well.
