VERDICT: Only a tentative vote can go to Vintage Clarets. Second at Ascot before gaining compensation at Catterick a fortnight later, that performance was a career best, so a subsequent 4lb rise in the handicap does not look overly harsh. With conditions to suit and from a favourable draw, he could follow up. Aberama Gold finished fourth in behind the selection that day but he's 3lb better off and may well close the gap. Blue Storm was raised 5lb for a narrow Haydock success and, while not ruled out, Nottingham scorer Woolhampton could be a bigger threat.
