VERDICT: With an official rating of 81, Newtown Duke should be able to register a first win. The Dermot Weld-trained colt finished runner-up on his racecourse debut at Limerick in July, before running third at Galway the following month. Although a beaten favourite at Leopardstown when last seen, the son of Lope De Vega deserves another chance. Gavin Cromwell's Babich rates the main threat to the selection. Having just lost out by a head on his debut, the gelding ran respectably in a decent sales race before disappointing at Ballinrobe last time. Former bumper winner Mazyad ran well enough when runner-up on the Flat at Galway to suggest he can also be involved in this open contest.
