VERDICT: Never far from faulting, but never far from surprising either, Krystal Palace (1) makes just his 2nd start for the Pacha yard, goes barefoot for the occasion, with Eric Raffin in the bike, and has a realistic chance of winning this...if he deigns to stay in stride. The better-placed Killer D'enfer (3) got off the mark at Caen when first-time barefoot and also appears to be in with a decent shout. Solid as a rock lately, Kimi Du Dome (16) has been handed a shocking draw but goes unshod in front for the first time and will be a tough nut if Philippe Daugeard successfully navigates the start. There is no doubting the potential of Kito Turgot (6) and, while regularly object of the stewards' scrutiny, he reverts to racing with just front shoes off, and must be worth a punt.
