VERDICT: Bell Shot impressed when readily showing his rivals a clean pair of heels to win eased down over an extended 7f at Beverley recently, and a 5lb penalty may not be enough to anchor Michael Appleby's charge. Finbar's Lad went agonisingly close to returning to winning ways when a narrow second over 7f at York two weeks ago and a 2lb rise doesn't discount him. The fact that Thapa VC was still able to win despite plenty going wrong at Doncaster last month makes him one for the shortlist off 2lb higher.
