VERDICT: Lightning Force came within a whisker of making a successful start to her career at Kempton, pipped by a filly who went on to make the frame in the Hilary Needler. Ollie Sangster's youngster should step forward appreciably and can gain compensation for that near-miss. Mapledurham may not have quite matched the level of her Newbury debut when sixth at Leicester but is still a force to be reckoned with, as is Alerta Maxima, who caught the eye here. Alondra isn't out of it either.
