VERDICT: In an open event, a chance is taken on Republican. The gelded son of Kayf Tara is without a win since his novice campaign, which his sliding handicap mark reflects, but recent signs suggest he might be able to take advantage. Shighness bolted up from a 6lb lower mark over C&D in November and a return to this venue could see her back in the winner's enclosure. Here Comes McCoy might not be far away either.
