Royale Margaux was a slightly fortunate winner of the Read Nicky Henderson’s Weekly Unibet Blog Mares’ Hurdle at Warwick.
Without a win since joining Tom Symonds from France, she had flattered to deceive somewhat in her career so far.
You Wear It Well, back over hurdles after a couple of less than inspiring runs over fences, set out to make it a real test and that had Willie Mullins’ Gala Marceau in trouble some way out.
In fact she had the whole field in trouble, and Johnny Burke looked to have stolen the race when going three lengths clear between the last two.
You Wear It Well met the last obstacle all wrong though and came down, which allowed Ben Poste on the eventual winner to come storming through and win by four lengths at 12-1 from the outsider Sunday Soldier.
“I think we might have got there anyway as she was really getting going,” said Poste.
“From the back of two out she was really picking up and I’m delighted because she deserves that.
“She’s been frustrating and has made me look stupid a couple of times and she probably doesn’t find an awful lot.
“Today it worked out lovely for her and she’s hit the line hard, so I’m delighted.
“I was pinned in a little but that actually worked in my favour as she only has the one run, then she saw it out really nicely.”
