French recruit Bubble Gum made a winning start for Paddy Twomey in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Noblesse Stakes at Cork.
A two-time winner in France, the Australian Bloodstock-owned four-year-old was stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time.
The 7-4 favourite came up short in the Prix de Diane and German Oaks, but showed her class in the drop in grade as she was shaken up a furlong out to take charge and canter home one and a half lengths clear of Ameerat Jumaira in the hands of Billy Lee.
Twomey will now target a step back up to Group company and said: “Australian Bloodstock won the Melbourne Cup (in 2014) with Protectionist and Ronald Rauscher is their racing manager and buys their horses. They have dreams of winning Melbourne Cups and such, so hopefully we can facilitate them in whatever they want to do.
“She is a lovely filly and Ronald, who lives in Doneraile, rang me in November and said he had a filly which might suit me. She hasn’t missed a beat since she came to me in December, has trained well and I’m delighted to have her.
“I also had Purple Lily and Beechwood for this race, but thought this filly would be the most adaptable as the others would like an ease. It is good to have a strong squad of fillies and this filly has a bit of class.
“She is a stakes winner now and we’ll find a Group race next.”
Lady With The Lamp could possibly be campaigned with Royal Ascot in mind after running out a 28-1 winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cork Stakes.
Ostraka set the early pace but Lady With The Lamp was always handy and after being shifted right by Declan McDonogh to find a clean run she quickened nicely to move ahead half a furlong from home.
The three-year-old Joseph O’Brien-trained filly held off the challenge of Vespertilio to come home half a length clear and the Commonwealth Cup could now be a target for later this summer.
The filly is owned by Emma Palmer, Kevin Blake, Michael Wilson and Nick Luck, and Blake said: “She had a penalty, but it was a good starting point.
“We had been thinking about the Polonia Stakes back here in May or the Chelmer (Fillies’ Stakes, at Chelmsford), but we’ll have to see now.
“She doesn’t get any credit and was a giant price again today, but she has beaten good fillies and colts. She had done well physically and mentally and seems to be growing up.
“You’d love to think she could run in the Commonwealth Cup, if you were going to go mad, but she has won two Listed races now.
“Myself, Emma, Michael and Nick are all pals, and at the sales Michael half head-locked Nick into buying the horse.
“They get a real kick out of it and she has been a dream filly for her purchase price.”
Bodhi Bear made it back-to-back victories in the Buy Your Tickets Now For The Easter Festival Rated Race.
The Fozzy Stack-trained son of Starspangledbanner took up the running a furlong out and kept on to justify 11-10 favouritism.
Stack said: “He didn’t get seven furlongs last year so rather than trying to stretch him out, we decided to keep sprinting.
“We’ll see what Mr O’Gorman’s (handicapper) opinion is and there’s a Premier Handicap at Naas before the Punchestown Festival and a Listed race at Navan for him, hopefully he will make into that level.
“He won on easyish ground at Navan, but wouldn’t want soft.”
